An audit should give you something you can use to make a decision. A list of AI tools is not enough on its own. You need to know which workflow to improve, what information it uses and where a person should stay involved.

For example, imagine a small team handling new inquiries through a website form, a shared inbox and a calendar. Before automating anything, map how those inquiries move through the team today. Who reads them? What gets copied into another tool? Who decides whether to offer a call? What happens when details are missing? This is an illustrative workflow, not a client result.

A useful audit output for that workflow might include:

1. The current path from the form to the inbox, record and booking step.
2. A proposed first change, such as organizing the details and drafting a reply.
3. The information and accounts the workflow needs, with limits on access.
4. The actions a person must approve before anything is sent or changed.
5. The exceptions that go to a person, such as an unclear request or failed tool.
6. A way to check the result, such as missing inquiries and replies needing edits.
7. A build scope, estimated implementation effort and ongoing costs to review.

Start with a workflow that happens often, has a clear owner and can be checked. Record how much work it takes today before estimating any time saved. If the available records are incomplete, the first step may be improving the intake process rather than adding AI.
